A heap of refuse spanning two years at Abraka Main market has been evacuated by Chief Augustine Ogedegbe-led administration of Ethiope East Local Government Council in Delta State.

Chief Ogedegbe, who supervised the evacuation that started on Friday and Saturday’s monthly environmental sanitation in the council, said a clean and healthy environment remains one of his administration’s cardinal objectives.

Since assuming office as chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council, Chief Augustine Ogedegbe has taken the lead in organizing a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise across the local government area.

On Friday, Chief Ogedegbe moved heavy-duty equipment to the Abraka Main market to clear two accumulated refuse, which he noted posed serious environmental and health challenges to the traders and buyers.

This initiative according to him aligns with the commitment of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori through the Ministry of Environment to foster healthy living amongst Deltans.

Chief Ogedegbe while monitoring Saturday’s state monthly environmental sanitation assured the people of Ethiope East of his administration’s preparedness to raise the bar in environmental cleanliness.

He pledged to ensure that the people of the area comply with the state government’s environmental policies while also highlighting the importance of taking proactive steps to create a safe and healthy environment for the people.

Chief Ogedegbe assured the public that his administration is enforcing the rules and actively participating in the clean-up process.

Some market women and other traders expressed their gratitude for the chairman’s efforts, recognizing the positive impact the evacuation of the refuse heap has on their health and business environment.

Chief Augustine Ogedegbe on assumption of office as chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council has emphasized that his goal is to foster a cleaner, safer, and more livable environment for all which signals a new era of environmental responsibility in the local government.
