Hon. Efe Ofobruku has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident at Effurun Roundabout which claimed the life of a commercial tricycle rider and left another person critically injured.

In a condolence message released on Wednesday, the former two-time member of the Delta State House of Assembly, who represented Uvwie Constituency, described the incident as “heartbreaking and avoidable,” extending his sympathies to the bereaved family and wishing the injured victim a speedy recovery.
He lamented the recurring incidents involving heavy-duty vehicles, particularly petrol tankers, on busy urban roads, stressing that stricter enforcement of safety regulations has become urgent.
According to him, “This painful loss underscores the need for relevant authorities, especially vehicle inspection agencies, to be more proactive and alive to their responsibilities. Many of these tankers on our roads are simply not roadworthy, and this poses a constant danger to innocent road users.”
Hon. Ofobruku, who is currently aspiring to represent Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, urged the Delta State Government and traffic management authorities to intensify routine inspections and enforce compliance with safety standards for articulated vehicles.
He also called for improved traffic control measures around ongoing construction zones, noting that the redesign of the Effurun Roundabout and nearby flyover projects has further increased the vulnerability of commuters and road users.
“This tragedy must serve as a wake-up call. We cannot continue to lose lives to preventable accidents. Ensuring that only certified and roadworthy vehicles operate on our roads is not optional, it is a necessity,” he added.
Hon. Ofobruku prayed for the repose of the deceased and strength for the grieving family, while urging residents and motorists to exercise caution as authorities work to improve road infrastructure in the area.
