The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, has reiterated the government’s determination to protect the lives of students in learning environments in the state.

Mrs Ezewu stated this in Asaba when she led officials of the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to Isioma Onyeobi Secondary School to ascertain the level of encroachment into the school fence by the operators of the National Open University, Asaba Study Centre.

The Commissioner said the National Open University had broken a specific part of the secondary school fence, in order to create access root to the Centre.

She noted that it was not proper for them to access the institution through the secondary school, adding that apart from being unlawful for the National Open University to break the fence without approval from the State Government such approach could distract teaching and learning activities at the Isioma Onyeobi Secondary School as a result of the influx of vehicles and movement of the staff and students of the university.

Mrs Ezewu stressed the need for the authorities of the institution to interface with the State Government with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem, saying that they ought to have consulted the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education before embarking it.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has advised Principals and Teachers in public secondary schools to fashion out ways to complement the government’s efforts in carrying out minor repairs of chairs and tables, rather than depending on the government to do everything.

Mrs Ezewu, who gave the advice at Osadenis Mixed Secondary School, Asaba when she paid an unscheduled visit to the school, said the Okowa’s administration had done well in the education sector, even as she urged them to always protect all government facilities in their schools from destruction.
