Tinubu takes oath as 16th President of Nigeria

Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, took oath of office as the 16th President of Nigeria.

Tinubu, 71, takes over from Muhammadu Buhari, two months after being declared winner of the keenly contested February 25 presidential election.

The oath of office was conducted by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ariwoola at precisely 10.40am.

Tinubu was accompanied by his wife, Remi and his children.

President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha, and Yusuf Buhari, accompanied President Tinubu to the stage.

President Tinubu later signed the dotted lines committing himself to rule by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The flag was later lowered and presented to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who later handed over the new colours to the new President.
