Despite the controversial circumstances still surrounding the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, a church in Ughelli, Delta State has included the late singer’s name as part of the theme for its programme.
Recall that Mohbad’s death is still making headlines across Nigeria, particularly in the social media space, even as investigations and concerns have continued to trail his sudden demise.
The banner, which was put up by Harvest and Store House International Ministry, reads: “Night of encounter presents: Am not Mohbad, my star and light must shine in my lifetime!!!”.
The poster has generated a lot of conversation online, with many people commenting that churches these days will tell you what you want to hear to get your money.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 but the official cause of his death is yet to be released amid several conflicting reports.
Some sources claim that Mohbad was assaulted and bullied by his former record label boss, Naira Marley, and his group.
Others have alleged that Mohbad was killed by his best friend, who used juju (black magic) on him.
The police are still investigating Mohbad’s death, but they have arrested several suspects, including Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry.
The appearance of Mohbad’s name on a church programme’s banner is particularly tone-deaf, given the controversy surrounding his death.
Some analysts presume that the church is more interested in using Mohbad’s name to generate publicity for its event than in offering genuine spiritual support to its members.
They also viewed the including of Mohbad’s name as part of the church programme theme as a disturbing example of how some religious organisations are willing to exploit people’s grief to advance their agenda.
Mohbad born January 3, 1996, was a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter from Lagos.
