Delta Speaker, Guwor now Treasurer Nigeria Conference of Speakers

Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor has emerged as the  National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

Guwor was elected in a keen contest that saw the emergence of the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ogundoyin Adebo as Chairman, while the Speaker, Kastina State Assembly, Rt Hon Nasir Yahaya was returned as Deputy Chairman.

The position of Treasurer is number three in the hierarchy of Executive Officers of the Association, after the Chairman and Deputy Chairmanship positions.

The election was presided over by the Chairman, Electoral and Caretaker Committee, Rt Hon Abubakar Suleiman, who is the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.

Rt Hon Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker, Borno State Assembly, emerged as the  Financial Secretary of the new executive that will pilot the affairs of the body in the next two years.

Other inaugurated Officers at the event held at Ritz Continental Hotel, Abuja, are Rt Hon Mohammed Abubbakar, Speaker, Gombe State Assembly, to represent North-East, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu, Speaker Jigawa, North-West, Rt Hon Aondona Dajoh, Speaker Benue, North-Central, Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, Speaker Ekiti, South-West, Rt Hon Uche Ugwu, Speaker Enugu, South-East and Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, Speaker Bayelsa State Assembly, South South.

In his reaction, the Delta Assembly Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, expressed gratitude to God for providing him the enablement including good health, that qualified him for the contest.

Guwor paid glowing tributes to Speakers of the other 35 States’ Houses of Assembly for embracing his nomination for the position of Treasurer and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him.

He also thanked the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevrwori and Members of the Delta State House of Assembly, for their support, prayers and encouragement.

Guwor assured that he would remain a good ambassador of Delta State and a bridge between the young and old as well as a shining example to public officeholders.

“I entered this contest believing God that I will win. I approached the process, receiving all the needed support from my Governor and my colleagues in the Delta State Assembly. It is a victory for all the Lawmakers and Delta State as a whole.

“I must thank my colleague Speakers for the confidence reposed in me and I assure them that I will serve without blemishes. Together with the Chairman and other exco members, we will take Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, to the next level of growth,” Guwor stated.

It will be recalled that the current Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevrwori was a one-time Treasurer and subsequently, the Deputy National Chairman of the States Assembly Presiding Officers’  body while he was the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
