Delta Assembly lifts suspension of Dafe, Preyor

Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday lifted the suspension placed on Hon Chukwudi Dafe and Oboro Preyor.

The lifting of their suspension of Dafe representing Ukwani Constituency and Preyor who represents Bomadi Constituency followed the expiration of the 14 legislative days suspension slammed on them by the House for alleged gross misconduct.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor announced the lifting of the suspension at Tuesday’s plenary of the House.

Guwor said that following the alleged gross misconduct of the members, an investigative committee was set up to investigate the allegations.

He said that though the committee had yet to submit its report, the legislators were recalled following the expiration of the 14 legislative days.

The House then gave leave to the Majority Leader Honourable Emeka Nwaobi to bring in a Bill for a Law to provide for the Establishment of the Delta State Food Security Agency.

The Majority Leader who moved the motion for the Bill to be read the 1st time was seconded by the member representing Oshimili South, Honourable Bridget Anyafulu.

The second reading of the Bill was then differed to January 28 2025.

The House also granted leave to the Deputy Speaker, Right Honourable Arthur Akpowowo to bring a Bill for a law to Repeal the Delta State Waste Management Board Law of 2008, enact the Establishment of the Delta State Waste Management Board, and Maintain a system of Effective Waste Collection, Management and Disposal in the state.

He was seconded by the member representing Ughelli North 1 Honourable Matthew Omonade.

The motion for 1st reading was unanimously supported through a voice vote as put through by the Speaker.

The second reading of the bill differed from January 28, 2025.

The House Committee on Public Public Petitions led by its Chairman and member representing Ughelli North 1 Honourable Matthew Omonade submitted its report on the Alleged trespass on the co-operative landed properties in Achala Ibusa, belonging to the office of the Auditor General (State) Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited by members, Agents and cronies of Idumuoneta quarters, Umudiagbo, Achala Ibusa in Oshimili North local Government Area.

The House did not adopt the committee’s report seeking that it be redrafted.

Before adjourning plenary, the Speaker had wished all and sundry a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
