International Women’s Day: Delta NAWOJ honours 4 members

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Chapter has honoured four of its members who have contributed immensely in time, activities and resources towards the development of the Association in the state.

The Chairperson of the Association, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo announced the awards during their monthly meeting, which equally was made special in commemoration of the International Day of the Women.

She affirmed that there was need to reward hard work and dedication no matter how little adding that the Association in its wisdom decided to appreciate them with a Certificate of Recognition for their service to the group.

The awardees, namely; Comrades Stella Onwuegbuzie, Josephine Omodior, Christy Aboghe and Dorathy Mbasen Uba were recognised and presented award certificates for their exemplary membership and dedication to the Association’s affairs.

The awards were presented by Mrs Efegene Elizabeth, Director of Aging Matters with the Working Fingers International, Amb. Eris Jewo-Ibi, Chairperson of the Association Against Child, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Comrade Patrick Ochei, NUJ State Secretary and Mrs Mercy Muemufo, former NAWOJ Chairperson were special guests at the programme.

As a way of adding value to the business of the day, lectures were delivered by two resource persons on contemporary issues.

Amb. Eris Jewo-Ibi, Chairperson, Association Against Child, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, made a presentation on “DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” where she dwelt on the need to enhance productivity among women as a way of leading them up to speed with the realities of the moment.

She advocated the need to take time to learn Technology from a broader perspective, thereby teaching the women specifically on Financial Technology where payments and other transactions are done via the phone; Political Technology which enhances innovations and methods of elections like the use of BVAS and other technologies, including their benefits.

The second resource person, Efegene Elizabeth, Director, Aging Matters, Working Fingers International, discussed extensively ageing among women and what to do to avoid the negative side of it.
