The incumbent chairman of Sapele Local Government Council in Delta State, Chief Eugene Inoaghan has distanced himself from calls for him to run for a third term for the chairmanship position of the council.

Inoaghan in a statement on Saturday while reacting to some online news publications of some individuals calling on him to join the chairmanship race for the third time said he remains a true democrat hence he would not go against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which abors tenure elongation how much a third tenure.

Inoaghan in the statement signed by his Chief Protocol Officer, Mr Felix Abone, noted that while he deeply appreciates the calls which indicate the huge confidence reposed on him by majority of the people in Sapele Local Government Area, stressed that the supremacy of the constitution is greater than the interest of an individual or group.

Sapele Council boss thanked those who believe he still has so much to offer for the development of the area but said that he will be able to do in a higher capacity to serve the people when they call on him to do so.

“I have never thought of it nor contemplated running for a third term as chairman of Sapele Local Government because I know fully well it is against the law.

“I appreciate and thank Hon William Popo and others for believing in me but we have to strictly abide by the constitution of Nigeria which is the grundnorm of the country.

“I am a true democrat and will seek higher positions in accordance with the laws of the land. I have contributed my quota to the peace, security and development of Sapele Local Government, let other competent persons come to advance the development of the area.

“My appeal for those who are aspiring to be the chairman of the Council is for them to play the game according to the rules and above all put the interest of the people they going serve first above their interest. They should bear in mind that power belongs to God and not man,” Inoaghan emphasized.
