The family of veteran journalist and former General Manager of Trend FM, Asaba, Delta State, Ijeoma Felicity Uba, will today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, lay her mother, Deaconess Nkechinyere Virginia Uba (née Onyedum), to rest in Nkwere, Imo State.
The 86-year-old matriarch died peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026, and is being buried following a week-long programme of funeral rites at the family’s ancestral home in Nkwere Local Government Area of Imo State.
The funeral programme began with a Service of Songs on Friday, October 2, at the compound of her late husband, Elder Mark Uba, in Ndimbara, Amaigbu Village.
The burial service is scheduled to hold today at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkwere, after which her remains will be interred at the family’s ancestral home.
Announcing her death, the deceased’s sons, Reverend Vincent Anayo Uba and Professor Chiwuike Uba, described the loss as a deeply painful moment for the family, saying her death marked the end of what they described as a remarkable era.
The family described Deaconess Nkechinyere Uba as a devoted Christian, accomplished businesswoman, community leader and exemplary matriarch whose life was characterised by faith, service, sacrifice and commitment to family and community.
They said she was also a mother to many beyond her biological children, noting that her legacy of compassion, kindness, discipline, piety, integrity and strong moral values would continue to live on.
The funeral rites bring to a close the journey of a woman the family said devoted much of her life to nurturing her children, supporting her community and extending care and compassion to people around her.
Her final interment today is expected to bring together family members, friends, associates and well-wishers to honour her memory and bid farewell to the late matriarch.
