Ijaw leader, Babogha berates Bauchi governor for backing herders carrying Ak-47 rifles

An Ijaw leader, Chief Julius Babogha has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to caution Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, over what he describes as inciting comments from the governor that are capable of causing crises in the country.

Babogha on Sunday berated the governor over a comment he made about herdsmen carrying Ak-47 rifles for self-defence.

Governor Mohammed had in a forum while discussing the excesses of the Fulani herdsmen across the country, said the herdsmen have the right to own and carry around AK47 rifles for protection of their cows.

The Ijaw leader and GMD/CEO of Babsfield Corporate Ventures and Tamfel Global Resources, while speaking to newsmen, described the statement credited to the Bauchi governor as nothing but an abuse of office.

Babogha said, “If he is encouraging herdsmen to be carrying AK47 around because of their cow, forgetting the killings they perpetrate across the country, then, Niger Deltans can equally carry arms to protect their fish farms, waterways and other farms that generate money to them.

“It will be too funny if the Bauchi governor has forgotten so soon the 1967 to 1970 war, except he is not of age then, but if he is, then he is calling for war and l will still call on Niger-Delta governors to emulate Bauchi governor and allow Niger-Deltans to be in possession of arms and let’s see if the country will not become a war zone.

“In view of this, l will appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to caution some of the Northern governors on their choices of words in other not to plunge this country into another round of war, because we cannot allow one ethnic group to constitute so much threat to the rest of Nigeria nations except they are banking on the likes of Bauchi governor.

“We call on the Buhari government to consult the history books. If it does, it will discover that the exact same events which led to the thirty-month civil war between 1967 and 1970 are playing out now and those who fail to learn from history will be forced to repeat it,” Babogha warned.
