Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Asasa says he will do more for the people of the area if reelected.

Asasa is among the twenty-four other serving local government council chairmen in Delta State who were sworn into office three years ago.

Receiving the newly elected executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council led by the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, on a courtesy call, on Thursday, November 14, 2023, in his office at the secretariat of the Isoko South Local Government Council in Oleh, Hon. Asasa said he remains committed to leaving enduring legacies in the administration of the council.

Asasa, who has an enviable track record in the private sector said from the beginning of his administration he resolved to be financially prudent in the management of the funds and innovative in driving the affairs of the local government to meet the needs of the people at the grassroots.

He told the visiting Oyowe-led NUJ Delta that from March 8, 2021, when he took over the mantle of leadership as chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council to date his administration has been able to execute over twenty people-oriented projects and programmes.

He listed the projects to include the provision/distribution of 200 pieces of knapsack weed control equipment to mostly women farmers across the local government area, solar-powered lights in Oleh, Renovation of the Divisional Police Officer (D.P.O) official quarters, desilting and evacuation of drains in the local government area headquarters, Irri, Aviara and others and renovation of Oleh main abattoir.

In the area of primary healthcare, Hon. Asasa said his administration in three years was able to install solar lights in Edherie Primary Health Care Centre with external solar flood lights, complete the renovation/painting of Edherie Primary Health Care Centre, construction of culvert and access walk-way in Edherie Primary  Health Care Centre, the on-going construction of culvert and access walk-way in Erowha Primary Health Care Centre, construction/provision of overhead water tank (complete with iron stands and taps) in Uzere PHC, construction/provision of overhead water tank (complete with iron stands and taps) in Olomoro-Egbo Quarter and the provision of a new primary health care centre in oleh ward II to further make Health care available for more people in the community.

In curbing criminality and other vices in the council area, Hon. Asasa disclosed that his administration was able to put in place some security measures such as the introduction/inauguration of ‘Isoko South Neighborhood Watch’, an initiative to encourage homeowners with other members of their local communities to come together to create a safer and more crime resilient neighbourhood.

He explained that the network involves Nigerian Security agencies such as DSS, Police, NSCDC, Immigration,  Army, Military intelligence, Federal road safety corps and other stakeholders like community President Generals, Ward chairmen, State/Local government vigilante heads and selected retired security personnel.

To this end, he said phones were provided with emergency numbers for the security agencies including the provision of informative signboards with emergency phone numbers at strategic public locations in the local government area and the construction of two units of mobile police post/cabin with solar security lights in Oleh-Ozoro roundabout near Isoko Development Union (IDU) house.

Also in tackling the security challenges in Isoko South, his administration provided temporary accommodation and office furniture to support the 181 Amphibious Battalion Tactical headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Oleh.

On staff welfare, the Isoko South Council chairman said his administration purchased two Sienna buses for NULGE Nigerian Union of Local  Government Employees, NULGE, Isoko South Local Government Area chapter and the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Isoko South Local Government branch as well as putting smiles on the faces of staff of the council during the yuletide.

Earlier, the chairman, NUJ Delta, Comrade Churchill Oyowe told the chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Asasa that part of the visit was in keeping with the constitutional role of the media which includes holding accountable governments at all levels.

Oyowe particularly commended Asasa for keeping to his electioneering promises to the people of Isoko South and expressed the hope that the people will reciprocate his unprecedented achievements in just three years in the saddle by giving him their mandate to serve for another tenure of three years.

This, according to Oyowe is premised on the saying that the “reward for hard work, is more work”.
