Gunmen suspected to be assassins on Saturday evening shot dead a Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Youth Development, Comrade Okiemute Sowho in Sapele, Delta State.

Advocate.ng reports that Sowho, who is said to be in his early 40s was shot at a close range around 6pm, near a popular hotel along Akintola road close to the Adeniyi end of the town.

According to sources, the deceased had gone to check a building in the vicinity, when the assailants surfaced from nowhere and opened fire on him, before speeding away in a white Venza they came with.

Sympathisers were said to have rushed him to a private hospital in the area where the doctors confirmed him dead on arrival before his remains were deposited in a morgue.

When contacted the Acting Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Edafe Bright confirmed the killing of Okiemute Sowho.

He said, “It’s true that we have a report that an aide to the governor was killed; however, we are yet to get details”.

Mr Bright however promised to get back with more details as investigation has commenced.

Sowho, popularly called Daddy K and a former Councillorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ward 3, Sapele Local Government Area was a strong supporter of Governor Okowa.

In 2019, he set up an initiative called ‘Refuel Okowa’, aimed at fueling 100 tricycles and 100 motorcycles monthly, which he said was aimed at encouraging the people of Sapele, where he resides, as his little way of promoting the Governor’s prosperity agenda among Deltans.

Last year Sowho was appointed the Special Assistant to the Governor on youth development, a position he held until his death.

The deceased according to a source paid the bride price of his second wife a few months ago and one of his wives is currently pregnant.
