The Rivers State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed five of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commissioner nominees for appointment into the State Executive Council, while rejecting four others following a rigorous legislative evaluation on Monday.
During the plenary session in Port Harcourt, lawmakers approved the nominations of Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Amairigha Edward Hart to join the governor’s cabinet.
However, four nominees, Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree, were not confirmed by the Assembly.
The legislature cited concerns raised during the screening process, including performance issues, incomplete documentation, public comments, and petitions from constituents.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule announced that the confirmed nominees’ names will be formally communicated to Governor Fubara for their official appointment and swearing‑in.
The development comes months after peace efforts involving a federal‑level truce aimed at stabilising Rivers State’s political landscape following earlier tensions between the governor and state legislators.
The House of Assembly is scheduled to reconvene on March 17, 2026, as the governor may present additional nominees to fill the remaining cabinet vacancies.
