Fire on Monday night gutted a gas plant on Effurun/Sapele Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery as it happened when the plant was supposed to have been shut down for the business of the day.
Eyewitnesses said they heard a huge bang shortly before ten pm and that the ensuing fire engulfed the entire premises of the gas plant identified as NELMIC Gas plant located opposite the Effurun Post Office.
Eyewitnesses also said a few houses close to the gas plant were affected by the fire.
It could however not be confirmed if there were any causalities from the inferno.
Reports indicated that the blast from the plant was heard several kilometres away.
Firefighters raced to the scene of the fire and also reportedly put up a spirited battle to bring the fire under control.
