Fallout of PDP loss in Udu: Jite Brown, others attack Uviejitobor in Asaba

Delta: Voting ongoing in Udu, Ughelli South

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Udu Constituency in last Saturday’s House Assembly election in Delta State, Chief Jite Brown, on Monday allegedly led an attack on the incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon (Chief) Peter Uviejitobor at the official residence of the Governor-elect and Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori at the State House of Assembly complex in Asaba.

Jite Brown who is the Chairman Udu Local Government Council lost the election to the APC candidate with about two thousand votes.

The attack was sequel to the allegation that Hon Uviejitobor had refused to work for the council boss in the last Saturday’s elections.

Chief Jite Brown, together with one Elvis Kporoh, personally led the attack accusing Hon Uviejitobor of working against him which led to his abysmal failure in the election.

A concerned Udu indigene, Mr Onajite Temu, condemned the attack, explaining that as a close participant in Udu politics, he can confirm that Chief Jite Brown had never worked for Uviejitobor in all his previous victories, wondering why Jite Brown should be bitter over alleged support by Uviejitobor for another candidate at the poll.

“I can confirm with all certainty that in 2019, during the re-election of Hon Uviejitobor under the PDP ticket, Chief Jite Brown as a sitting council Chairman worked for Hon D.J Ben, then of the APC. Nobody complained. After the primary election last year in which Jite Brown defeated Uviejitobor, the incumbent House of Assembly member congratulated Brown. Why is he going physical over his electoral loss?” he stated.

Reacting to the attack, Hon Peter Uviejitobor, who was at the Speaker’s residence together with his colleagues to rejoice with Oborevwori over the victory at the poll, described the development as sad and embarrassing to the entire Delta State Legislature.

He said he would not make further comment on the issue until the House take a resolution on it as it happened in the residence of the Speaker and in the presence of his colleagues.

Investigation revealed that the loss of the election by the PDP House of Assembly candidate in Udu has continued to generate acrimony within the party, with supporters of Chief Jite Brown accusing many people of working against him and the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

However, the results from Jite Brown Aladja ward 10 obviously gave him away as having traded off the PDP gubernatorial candidate for personal survival.

This is against the backdrop of the fact that while Chief Jite Brown polled a total of 2,546 votes in his Aladja ward, Sheriff Oborevwori got only 1,701 votes in the same ward.

The attack on PDP elements who allegedly worked against Jite Brown in Udu has been going on many social media platforms as they are being branded as having worked against Oborevwori.

“This is a white lie that cannot fly. The party made a wrong choice and Chief Jite Brown is in fact the reason PDP lost Udu despite the unity of the leaders in the election. Chief Jite Brown will throw Udu into a major crisis if he fails to manage his loss well. He is not the first person to lose an election. He should take things easy before the matter degenerate into a major crisis in Udu,” said Temu.
