Jonathan Eghweree, the first Executive Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council in Delta State has passed on.

NewsNet Nigeria gathered that Eghweree, a native of Edjemuoyavwe in Oghara who was in his 70s died on September 29, 2022.

Survived by 3 wives and 16 children, the late Jonathan Eghweree had led a good life with highly educated children at home and abroad, including some in the federal ministries of defence, interior and information.

PDP Ethiope West chapter Chairman, Solomon Obareki and his Executive sympathizing with friends, family members and well-wishers at the Eghweree family compound in Edjemuoyavwe, Oghara.

Highlights of his political career include his early days in politics after the creation of Delta State in August 1991, when he emerged as the 1st Executive Chairman of the newly created Ethiope West Local Government Area, which was fashioned out of the old Ethiope Local Government Area, of the then Bendel State.

Other important positions held by the legend include his role as PDP Delta Central Coordinator, Governor James Ibori Reelection Campaign (2007); 1st member, Local Government Service Commission (2007-2011) and member, Delta State Scholarship Board (2015-2022).

Meanwhile, following the demise of Jonathan Eghweree, some prominent sons of Ethiope West Local Government Area have visited the Eghweree family compound in Edjemuoyavwe, Oghara, to condole with the family.

The sympathizers include former state Commissioner for Special Duties, Pastor Champion Kpateghe; former Chairman, Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Moses Ogbe, Chairman, Ethiope West Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Solomon Obareki and members of his executive.

Kpateghe, Ogbe and Obareki described the late Jonathan Eghweree as a man of peace and one who was passionate about the development of his people and Ethiope West.

They prayed God to grant the Eghweree family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“The party is with you,” Obareki assured the family.
