The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Evwreni Clan Improvement Union (ECIU) has approved the constitution of a Peace and Reconciliation Committee over a crisis, which in the past engulfed Evwreni Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

This was part of the major outcomes of a meeting of the ECIU NEC held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Eni Hall in Evwreni Kingdom.

The meeting presided over by the President General of the Union, Prince (Chief) Kenneth Ighomifovwe Ukpebitere resolved that the Peace and Reconciliation Committee which composition would be done by both the Presidents of the branches and the  President General will comprised men and women selected from all the branches to fashion out ways of reconciling all those who have been wronged and are aggrieved in one way or the other.

The peace move, according to the Union, is to fashion out the best and most appropriate ways to bring back love and brotherliness in the kingdom.

On the implementation of the Delta State Government White Paper on the Evwreni Kingdom Crisis, the NEC acknowledged the enormous benefits derivable from the implementation of the recommendations of the white paper especially in the areas of payment of compensation to persons whose properties were destroyed and/or burnt and the disarmament and installation of new vigilante which will be done in no distant time in conjunction with relevant government agencies.

Another resolution reached by the ECIU NEC was the review and amendment of the 2016 ECIU constitution to accommodate emerging issues.

To achieve this, it was resolved that a committee be put in place to help prepare a review draft for consideration and/or adoption.

During the meeting, the NEC also confirmed Ogor, Festac, Orhuwhorun, and Ondo branches of ECIU, which were represented by their Presidents and Secretaries after their presentation by the President General to the NEC in Council for recognition.

Also confirmed were the following committees: Town Planning and Building Committee, Education Committee, Marriage Committee, and Social Committee.

On education, the successful candidates for the 2022/23 Heritage Scholarship examinations had their offer letters presented to their parents in attendance while the remaining seven letters of those not in attendance were given to the Vice President General, Sunday Okpare for safekeeping and onward transmission to the beneficiaries.

The ECIU President General, Prince Kenneth Ukpebitere earlier in his welcome address disclosed that a few weeks after the inauguration of his Executive, they embarked on an inspection of certain places in the kingdom to check the state of the facilities and how they can be urgently looked into to draw the attention of government and other relevant agencies to take necessary actions.

The places visited include the Eni General Hospital, the Main Market, Mariere Primary School, Mukoro Mowoe Primary School, Girls Model Secondary, Eni Town Hall, and the ECIU Secretariat, all in Evwreni town. Other places include Unenurhie Health Centre, Primary and Secondary Schools, and the Vocational Studies Centre in Evwreni.

At Eni Grammar School, where the President General in his benevolence paid the WAEC, NECO, and JAMB enrollment of the school head girl, Salvation Samson, who is a one-time best student of the JETS club that won an award for the school.
