After prolonged speculation of his ambition to join the 2023 presidential race under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, on Friday purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for the party’s presidential ticket.

NewsNet Nigeria reliably gathered that Emefiele obtained his forms on Friday morning from the National Organising Secretary of APC at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.

Reliable insider sources in the APC told NewsNet Nigeria that Emefiele is the preferred choice of President Muhammadu Buhari after a thorough search in line with current realities in the political development of Nigeria.

Sources say APC political gladiators spearheaded by the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, sources say settled for Emefiele as a candidate of the party from the Anioma nation of Delta State, which has long in history been unofficially part of South-East Nigeria.

NewsNet Nigeria gathered that Emefiele was selected above former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, who is largely perceived to have some scores to settle with the people of South-South over his roles that led to former President Goodluck Jonathan losing the 2015 presidential election.

Emefiele is also said to be generally accepted by northern powers who strongly view him to be very supportive of the development initiatives of the Buhari administration.

Key players in the APC and inner circle of Buhari’s government it was learnt are strongly of the view that settling for Emefiele will put an end to agitations and the recent insistence by elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark and other notable leaders that power must shift to southern Nigeria in 2023.
