President Bola Tinubu has jettisoned the proposed 40 per cent of Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) deduction from federal universities.

This followed the widespread public condemnation of the policy which many say will further deny the children of the poor access to University education.

Tinubu while cancelling the policy said its implementation is “ill-timed” since most universities are still struggling.

The President spoke through his Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, on Friday at the 75th Founder’s Day ceremony of the University of Ibadan.

Tinubu who pledged to reform the nation’s education sector said, “The 40 per cent IGR automatic deduction policy stands cancelled. This is not the best time for such a policy since our universities are struggling”.
