Rotary Club of Evwreni, District 9141 on Thursday, October 12, 2023, distributed thousands of notebooks to eight public primary and secondary schools in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, South-South Nigeria.

The distribution of the notebooks comes a few months after the successful chartering of the Club on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, and the Charter presentation and installation of the Charter President, Rotarian Samuel Ajenakevwe Adjogbe, PhD, FNSE, AKS, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Eclat Royal Hotels in Ughelli Area of Delta State

The gesture by the Rotary Club of Evwreni is also very timely considering the resumption of both private and public schools in Delta State for the 2023/2024 academic session on Monday, September 11, 2023.

In her remarks at the various schools, the Vice President, Rotary Club of Evwreni, Rtn. Clementina Ejabefio said the distribution of the notebooks is in line with the Rotary Foundation’s education support through scholarships, donations, and service projects around the world considering the fact that more than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate which represents 17 percent of the world’s adult population.

“With the challenging economic situation across the world particularly developing nations like Nigeria most parents are unable to cater for the school needs of their children thereby forcing many either out of school or faced with inadequate education materials to enhance their studies.

“For us in Rotary Club of Evwreni we are committed to contributing our quota from time to time in ensuring that children of school age are provided essential learning materials to relieve their parents of the huge burden of training them educationally,” said Rtn. Ejabefio.

The heads of the benefitting schools expressed immense gratitude to the Rotary Club of Evwreni for the notebooks which according to them will boost the morale of the learners and students towards their studies.
