Hussey Model College Warri wins 5th edition of Bashorun Askia Foundation BAF Schools Debate

Hussey Model College Warri has won the 5th edition of the Bashorun Askia Foundation BAF Schools Debate in Delta State.

Hussey Model College Warri also put up a brilliant performance to emerge the winner of the maiden edition of the BAF schools debate competition for both public and private secondary schools in the state.

In the keenly contested grand finale of the 5th edition featuring four schools, held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG Hall on Chevron Road, NPA Expressway Warri, Rotero Group of Schools and ECWA Group of Schools clinched the 2nd and 3rd positions.

ECWA Group of Schools Ekpan and their Ighogbadu Secondary School Warri counterpart debated on “Parental upbringing, have parents missed it?”.

Students of Hussey Model College Warri and Rotero Group of Schools Jeddo had their topic on “Economic situation in Nigeria. Who is to blame?”

In the end, a 3-man panel of Judges of Dr Jeroh Ejayeta, Dr Rose Obi and Prof Okoro, announced the results of the debate, with Hussey Model College clinching the top position, while Rotero Group of Schools and ECWA Group of Schools settled for the second and third positions respectively.

Speaking on the idea behind the Bashorun Askia Foundation BAF Schools Debate, the Founder and President of the foundation, Bashorun Askia Ogieh said he considered it expedient to give adequate attention to education to inspire academic excellence particularly amongst teenagers to redirect their minds away from things that would not add value to their lives for a productive and prosperous nation.

Bashorun Ogieh, who promised to continue the programme, challenged other organizations and institutions to support academic programmes to instil the right characters, attitudes, and required confidence in the younger generation for a better society.

The Coordinator of the Bashorun Askia Foundation BAF Schools Debate, Mrs Obes Isonguyo, commended the President of the Foundation for sustaining the programme since its inception.

Mrs Isonguyo disclosed that through the BAF schools debate some students have also been awarded scholarships by the Foundation.

The winner of the competition, Hussey Model College, Warri, clinched the coveted prize of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.

Rotero Group of Schools and ECWA Group of Schools went home with One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira and One Hundred Thousand Naira respectively.

Ebibode Pereotubo of Rotero Group of Schools emerged as the best speaker for the BAF schools debate competition and was presented with a cash award of Fifty Thousand Naira.

The Warri Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Graham Imade, Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Political Matters, Chief Prosper Edo and the Secretary to Isoko South Local Government, Zino Osuofa, and some management staff of Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri graced the 5th edition of the Bashorun Askia Foundation BAF Schools Debate.
