DTHA lauds Okowa govt for new 7-floor state secretariat

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Women Development has applauded the seven-floor new Secretariat building project by the state government.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ferguson Onwo gave the commendation when members visited the project site located at the popular Mariam Babangida Way, Asaba to inspect the level of work on the multi billion Naira edifice.

Hon Onwo, flanked by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Hon Eric Oharisi and three other members, Honorables Innocent Anidi, Pat Ajudua and Peter Uviejitobor, were conducted round the project by the State Commissioner, Special Duties, Government House, Chief Henry Siakpra.

The Lawmakers were taken round most of the several sections of the new secretariat building, including offices of different categories of workers, the clinics, the crèche, the Information and Technology Center, ICT, the Restaurants, Driver’s waiting rooms amongst others.

They were also showed the entire designs of the public building, the various exit points and progress of work on the parking lots of the building project.

The Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Women Development, Hon Ferguson Onwo said the inspection visit was part of the oversight functions of the State Legislature.

The Lawmaker who represents Isoko South two Constituency, described the new secretariat building as massive, saying that funds appropriated to the project was well utilized by the State Government.

Hon Onwo stressed that the Committee was impressed by the quality of work on the project, noting that the timely execution and standard reached were unique as it met expectations of the Delta State House of Assembly.

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his visionary leadership and commitment to leaving lasting legacies in the state, maintaining that the five star secretariat housing both bank, school, hospital, restaurants, lounges and offices, met international Standards.

The State Commissioner, Special Duties, Government House, Chief Henry Sakpra said the new secretariat building is a one-stop-shop, disclosing that the project started towards the end of the first tenure of the Okowa’s administration.

Chief Siakpra told the Lawmakers that works on the project is at the completion stage, saying that installations of furniture and fittings, ICT facilities, electrification and other finishing touches were being completed to enable the contractor handover the site for occupation.

The Commissioner explained that the project was embarked upon by the state government to provide a good working environment for its workforce and save money for the state as government was spending so much on rented office accommodations.

Chief Siakpra thanked the Committee for the visit and called for sustained synergy towards the delivery of more dividends of democracy in the state.
