Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide credible leadership and good governance for Nigerians.

In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate withdrawal from the party.

The letter was shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the former lawmaker wrote, lamenting the party’s “lack of potency and capacity to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”

Melaye, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 Kogi State election, said his decision followed deep reflection on the state and direction of the party.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda,” he stated.

He concluded the letter by requesting that his resignation be treated as a total withdrawal from all party activities and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the PDP platform.

Melaye’s resignation marks another high-profile exit from the opposition party amid ongoing internal rifts and criticisms over its performance.
