The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Delta State led by Prophet Jones Ode Erue has distanced itself from what it termed the “so-called Delta State APC Leaders Council” which existence it says is illegal and unknown to the party’s constitution.

A statement on Tuesday by the Director, Publicity APC Delta State, Nick Ovuakporie, said “For the avoidance of doubt and for the purpose of clarity, the Delta State APC Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Prophet Jones Ode Erue, hereby categorically states that there is no such body known to law under the Constitution of our great Party APC, neither has the national leadership of the Party inaugurated any such body with respect to the affairs of the Party in Delta State.”

The statement frowned at the arrogation by the illegal Delta State APC Leaders Council the power to nominate persons to conduct the forthcoming congresses in the state.

“This action is seriously deprecated. It is no doubt an attempt to usurp the authority of the State Caucus which is the constitutionally recognized organ of the Party vested with the authority to carry out such action in consultation with the leadership of the State Caretaker Committee.

“The Delta State Caretaker Committee under the leadership of the State Chairman, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, hereby condemns in its entirety, the action of this moribund group for its anti-party activities in the formation of a parallel organ of the Party. The party will not condone such shenanigans from anyone, no matter how highly placed such individuals may be.

“The Party wishes to state categorically that the formation of the membership of the congress committees in the various state chapters of the Party across the nation is the sole responsibility of the national leadership of the Party and not that of any kangaroo council made up of IDPs (internally-desperate politicians who are APC in the day and PDP in the night) whose only stock in trade is the fractionalization and destabilization of the Party structures in Delta State.

“The Party, therefore, calls on all its law-abiding and peace-loving members to remain steadfast and be rest assured that the membership of the congress committee that will be set up with respect to Delta State by the national leadership shall be devoid of any interference/nomination from this amorphous group or any other group and will consist of men and women of proven integrity that will conduct free and fair congresses in Delta State. The party promises that the forthcoming congresses shall reflect the will of the members of the Party that is geared towards the rescue mission of Delta State from the cleavages of the PDP misrule of many years,” the statement concludes.
