Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has constituted an Inter-Agency Traffic Management Taskforce headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The SSG, Chief Patrick Ukah in a statement on Monday, said the taskforce is to facilitate smooth transit of travellers  and commuters through the River Niger Bridge during the yuletide.

According to the statement, “The Taskforce includes officers and men of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA). This arrangement has been put in place in collaboration with the Government of Anambra State which has a similar structure on the Anambra State side of the bridge.

“The Taskforce has since commenced work and has directed the immediate dismantling of all checkpoints from Asaba International Airport to the Bridge Head. It has also directed that all motorists entering the bridge from Asaba end to keep to a single lane as marked-out by the Taskforce.

“Furthermore, all motorists plying the route, especially VIPs and commercial bus operators are requested to avoid making ‘U’ turn or driving against the flow of traffic as any erring vehicle in breach of this protocol will be immediately impounded by security personnel.

“While wishing all travellers a safe travelling experience, Delta State Government urges that they should all cooperate with the Taskforce to enable it deliver a hassle-free motoring experience for the benefit of us all.”
