Delta State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Mr Matthew Ochei, State Correspondent of The Punch Newspaper, extending condolences to his family and the Ukunzu community in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Rt Hon Guwor also condoled with the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Asaba Correspondents Chapel of the Union where he was the Vice Chairman, The Punch Newspaper, and the entire media fraternity over the death of Mr Ochei.

Ochei reportedly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, an occurrence the Speaker described as shocking, painful, and a great loss not only to his immediate family but also to the journalism profession, the Ukunzu community, and beyond.

Guwor acknowledged the significant contributions Mr Ochei made to the profession and society at large, noting that the sudden demise has created a void that will be difficult to fill, especially within the Delta media landscape, where he was widely valued.

“On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, my colleagues and I mourn the untimely demise of Mr Matthew Ochei, a dedicated journalist and a true professional. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ochei family, the Ukunzu community, the Delta State NUJ, and all those affected by this tragic loss,” Guwor said.

The Speaker prayed to God to grant the soul of the late Ochei peaceful rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He also asked for God’s mercy to comfort his colleagues, friends, the Ukunzu community, and all who mourn him.

The Speaker urged all to take solace in the impactful life Mr Ochei lived and the legacy of professionalism and service he left behind.
