Delta PDP left with one senator as Nwaoboshi ‘runs’ to APC

The member representing Delta North Senatorial District in the senate chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi on Friday finally got refuge in the All Progressives Congress, APC, when he was welcomed into the ruling party at the Presidential Villa in Abuja by President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The development now leaves Senator James Manager, who represents Delta South as the only Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senator from Delta State in the red chamber.

It has further raised serious concern about the unity and strength of the PDP in the state ahead of the 2023 general elections particularly on the senatorial district or tribe the successor of the incumbent governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa would emerge from.

Some political observers who are keeping a keen watch on the unfolding political dramas in the state, see the combination of forces from Omo-Agege, Nwaoboshi, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, currently an Executive Director, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and others being speculated to also defect to the APC as a big threat to the continued dominance of the PDP come 2023.

Political events in the coming days and months will definitely prove how prepared the leadership of the PDP in the state is able to re-strategise for the onslaught ahead in 2023.
