Youths of Okere-Urhobo community in Warri South Local Government Area of the Delta State on Sunday morning staged a peaceful protest alleging the exclusion of their names in the delegates list of the Okere-Urhobo youth administration.

Leading the youths on the protest, the Coordinator of the Okere-Urhobo Solidarity Front, Ambassador Lucky Ibiri said that the protest was the only legal way to draw attention of the Delta State government to the imposition of candidates on youths of the community.

Ibiri, who during the protest put a call across to the Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr Michael Tidi told newsmen that authorities of the council had broken the agreement it entered with the five ruling houses in Okere-Urhobo community as none of the ruling houses including the eldest man of the community, were part of the process.

The protesting youths who carried placards with different inscriptions appealed to the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to look into the oppression meted out on them by the Warri South Local Government.

They also urged the Council chairman to work with the five ruling houses in Okere-Urhobo community as it is in the state government’s provision that communities in the absence of a king be governed by the ruling houses.

The youths insisted on continuing the protest until their demands are met.
