Delta monarchs call for urgent military action to halt worsening insecurity in Nigeria

Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers has called for urgent military action to end the deteriorating state of insecurity in the country.

Rising from its monthly meeting in Asaba, the royal fathers decried the heightened insecurity in the nation’s capital, Abuja and called for the overhaul of the security architecture to give a more biting effect against insurgency in the country.

The monarchs stated that there was an urgent need to restore normalcy in the land, saying that no part of the country is safe.

The First Vice Chairman of the Council and Pere of Akugbene Mien, Pere SP Luke Kalanama VIII, who presided over the Meeting said the council was concerned about the deteriorating insecurity occasioned by unending deadly attacks and threats of attack by the insurgents.

Flanked by the 2nd Vice Chairman and Obi of Ubulu Uno, Agbogidi Henry Kikachukwu 1 and the immediate Past chairman of the Council, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, Kalanama VIII said the Monarchs also expressed sadness by the recent cult-related killing of three policemen in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The body called on the police to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.

The decisions of the Council which were encapsulated in a four-point- communique and read out at the end of the meeting, challenged all stakeholders in the security sector to brace up to their roles and ensure the security of lives and property of Nigerians as the nation prepares for the 2023 General Elections.

The monarchs advocated for greater synergy between royal fathers and Government for the betterment of the society even as they pledged increased support for the Delta state Governor and Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

The royal fathers appreciated Governor Okowa for his development strides and overall well-being of Deltans and prayed for his success in his political endeavours.

They called on Traditional Rulers in other States to emulate the Delta example by supporting and synergizing with their state governments, saying that such cooperation engenders good governance, peace, security and development.

The immediate past chairman of the Council and Obi of Owa, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11 who also addressed the council members spoke extensively on the current spate of insecurity in the land and tasked the monarchs and their Subjects to be vigilant.

He admonished them to be on alert to forestall any breakdown of law and order in their domains.
