By Julius Okoro

The race as to who becomes the next Chairman of Ethiope-East Local Government Council has begun with quite a number of persons indicating interest and scheming to lead the council sometime in 2021, when the election will hold.

Among the aspirants for the chairmanship position is a serving Councillor, Hon. Julius Evuarherhe Eguvwebere.

The “Empowerment Councillor” as he is fondly called, who represents the people of DSIEC Ward 7 under INEC Ward 8 has been ringing the bell on various social media platforms saying he wants to lead his people out of ‘Egypt’ to the promised land politically, physically, academically, economically, mentally, spiritually and otherwise.

Hon. Eguvwebere within eight days in office as Councillor, graded earth roads covering a total distance of approximately 20.5km in 2017. He repeated same in 2018/2019.

The councillor who hails from Ovu and Okpara communities also donated a five-bedroom bungalow to his community (Ward 7) to be used as a health post till date.

As a councillor who knows the plight of his people, he also donated motorcycles to the youths of the ward. He equally gave out cash gifts to over sixty widows and widowers in the entire federal wards comprising DSIEC Ward 7, 9, & 14 in order to encourage them economically.

In addition, Hon. Eguvwebere donated notebooks and other writing materials to all the primary schools in ward 8 and paid the enrollment fees of the pupils in the last Common Entrance Examination.

Hon. Eguvwebere has contributed immensely to the growth of Ethiope-East and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the council area, especially during elections.

His humanitarian services earned him the title “The Empowerment Councillor”.

Also, his humility has brought him to where he is politically, and he is loved by the people of Ethiope-East Council Area, who earnestly want him to lead the Council.

The people believe that once he is there, their future is secured because they strongly believe that if as a Councillor he could provide and empower them, he will do better if he is elected as Chairman of Ethiope-East Council.

To the people, with him in the saddle hunger will be reduced as he will continue to provide food for them, construct roads and improve healthcare services in the area.

Hon. Eguvwere emerged as Councillor as a result of the vacancy the death of the former Councillor, Hon. Samson Oyiborhorho created.

He indicated interest to contest the position with five other aspirants under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. A primary was conducted by the party’s leadership and he (Hon.Eguvwebere) emerged as the candidate and flew the flag in the election conducted by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC.

He won the election and was sworn into office as a Councillor in December 2016 with an unprecedented track record of representing ward 7 very well at the Council from 2016 to 2017.

He was reelected into office for his positive and remarkable achievements in 2018.

Hon. Eguvwebere, who began his political career in Sapele is a graduate of Public Administration from Heritage Polytechnic, Eket in Akwa -Ibom State. He is a successful businessman.

Hon. Eguvwebere is married to Anthonia Adanma Eguvwebere(PhD) and they are blessed with four children.

Without mincing words, Hon. Eguvwebere is fit and proper to lead the Council. He should be given the opportunity to fly the chairmanship flag by the leadership and members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ethiope-East Local Government Area and Delta State Chapter.
