A foremost aspirant for the 2023 governorship race in Delta State, Chief James Augoye has extolled the scholarly contributions and exemplary lifestyle of renowned Professor of International Relations, late Professor Sunday Akpotor.

Professor Akpotor, until his death in August 2021, was a senior Professor at the Delta State University, Abraka.

Speaking on Wednesday at the service of songs which held at the Professor Akpotor’s compound in Ughelli, Delta State, Chief Augoye described the news of the demise of the Agbarho-Otor born professor as a rude shock considering the fact that age was still very much on his side and still has a lot to contribute to the University community and humanity in general.

Augoye said, “It was indeed a very pathetic story but, we cannot question God. We give Him the glory.

“He was my lecturer at the then Edo State University now Ambrose Ali University between 1992 and 1996.

“He has been a very good man and very humble. You will not even know he was a professor. He related with people as mates even while in the classroom.

“He has been a very inspiring person to me. He was indeed great academia and a man that was well endowed intellectually.

“Professor Akpotor is a man we are going to miss so much because he was a man who understood contemporary society in terms of politics and economy. Well read and very vast in Nigeria and international politics.

“He lived a very fulfilled life, though short but very fulfilled.”

The commendation service for the one-time Director Centre for Strategic and Development Studies, AAU, Ekpoma, holds tomorrow Friday, October 22, 2021, at Atscan Hall, Site II, Delta State University, Abraka.

It will be immediately followed by a funeral service at All Saints’ Chapel Anglican Communion, Site III, Delta State University, Abraka.

Thereafter, his body leaves for internment at Professor Akpotor’s Compound, along Chief Ibrigbadimor Street, adjacent SPERBRU Company, Agbarho-Otor, Delta State.

Aged 63, late Professor Sunday Akpotor was born in Benin-City, Edo State on July 22, 1958, to Mr and Mrs Macaulay Akpotor of the Onosegboma’s family of Opherin-Owevwe, Agbarho-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

He attended the famous University of Ibadan, Ibadan, from 1978 to 1995, where he obtained his B.Sc, M.Sc and PhD degrees in Political Science in 1981, 1984, 1995 respectively.

Professor Akpotor got married to his wife, Barr (Mrs) Catherine Ejaita Akpotor (nee Avbovbede) on December 11, 1993, and the union is blessed with a loving daughter, Miss Eloho Akpotor.
