Delta govt seeks Ofagbe political leaders’ intervention over harassment of contractors

The Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Audit to Delta State Governor, Dr Goodnews Agbi has called on the residents of Ofagbe and neighbouring communities in Isoko North Local Government Area to cooperate with contractors for the 24-kilometer Isoko Ring Road project running from Ellu, Ovrode, Ofagbe, Orie, Okpe-Isoko, Uro to Ada-Irri in Isoko North and Isoko South to be completed without rancour.

Dr Agbi made the call during an on-the-spot inspection of some projects across Delta State in the company of his team of seasoned engineers from the project monitoring directorate.

Agbi’s call comes amid reports of fallouts between contractors and residents as the flood-ravaged community residents have been alleged to be charging huge sums of money from contractors for sand and other materials in the land to work thereby slowing the progress of the multi-billion naira project initiated by the governor okowa led administration which governor sheriff Oborevwori is now continuing.

The day’s inspection kicked off at the College of Medical Sciences Complex of the Delta State University Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area as the team inspected the gigantic project with Dr Agbi giving a thumbs up to the contractors for a good job.

The site engineer promised that the project should be ready before the end of 2024 but lamented the high cost of materials and labour calling for a review of the contract which Dr Agbi promised to forward to the state governor.

The team made their way from Agbor to inspect the 36km Umutu, Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Government Area road down to Abraka and Eku in Ethiope East maintenance project set to kick off in no distant time.

Agbi also made a stop to inspect the rehabilitation and asphalt laying of Ohorhe/Adagbrassa/Ugolo Okuodiete road with a spur from Adagbrassa Ugolo through Ughwagba community to Okan junction along the Eku/Osubi Effurun road in Okpe Local Government Area, a project he applauded the contractors for a job well done.

From Okpe Local Government Area, the team made a stop at the Hausa market flood control measures project ongoing across Effurun and its environs.

The Section C Asaba Ughelli Warri Express Road rehabilitation project was the next point of call before the team made their way to the 24-kilometre Isoko Ring Road project running from Ellu, Ovrode, Ofagbe, Orie, Okpe-Isoko, Uro to Ada-Irri in Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government an area known to be flood-ravaged every rainy season.

During a chat with media men, Dr Agbi reflected on the day’s assignment, expressing confidence in work done on some of the projects before hinting at the anomaly taking place at Ofagbe and why the indigenes must shun such behaviour and work with contractors as the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has zero tolerance for poor behaviour.

Dr Agbi also inspected the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway, the Iyede-Arade Section during which he told the contractor that the section between Emevor and Owhe axis is already failing with potholes developing because the formation level was not properly cambered.

He therefore asked the contractor Levant to go back to the affected section of the road as a matter of urgency to correct it before it degenerates into major failure.
