The Delta State government has approved the selection of His Royal Majesty, Emmanuel Okumagba, as the Orusuen (King) of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Tuesday at the end of the Delta State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Orusuen, Okumagba ll, had earlier been crowned by kingmakers of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, one of the two Urhobo Kingdoms in Warri.

His emergence as a king brings to an end the over one-year vacancy in the traditional stool.

Okumagba ll succeeds a former professor at the Sociology Department of the Delta State University, Abraka, HRM Prof. Paul Oghenero Okumagba, Idama II, who joined his ancestors July 2019.

He was a member of the Governor Okowa’s Delta Advisory and Peace Building Council.

Aniagwu also disclosed that the Exco also approved the appointment of Obi Boniface Uyanwanne as the traditional ruler of Ubulubu kingdom in Aniocha North LGA.

“Exco approved the appointment of Obi Boniface Uyanwanne as the traditional ruler of Ubulubu kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area and the appointment of HRM Emmanuel Onobrakpeya Okumagba as the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in Warri South Local Government Area”, the commissioner said.

Aniagwu stated that Exco also approved the amendment to the law guiding the succession of the throne of the Obi of Owa Kingdom to include that at the event that the Obi dies in Owa Kingdom without a male son, the eldest surviving brother will be crowned king.
