Delta distributed last consignments of Covid-19 palliatives in September – Okowa’s EAC

Contrary to rumours making the rounds particularly on social media that Covid-19 palliatives were found in some warehouses in Asaba and Ibusa, the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe has quoted the Governor as saying that the last consignments of palliatives were distributed across the three senatorial districts in the month of September.

The EACGOV in a statement on Saturday October 24, said there is no iota of truth in the rumour being peddled by mischief makers especially hijackers of the #Endsars protesters from outside the state, adding that the Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, is not aware of palliatives kept in some warehouses in Asaba, Ibusa or any other location.

He appealed to Deltans and members of the general public to ignore the unfounded and misleading fake rumours trending on social media, and assist government to protect all public properties built for the people with taxpayers money.

Oghenesivbe urged Delta gallant and responsible youths to assist government in chasing out criminals who despite the curfew, forced themselves into some parts of the state, noting that the impostors’ sole intention is to loot public and private properties, which must be resisted by government and the good people of Delta State.

“There are no palliatives stored in any warehouse in the state. Those spreading the fake news are mischievous elements from other States who constituted themselves to commit arson and in the process loot public and private properties, which was never the aim of the #Endsars protesters.

“The state governor, Senator Okowa has since aligned himself and government of Delta State with the demands of the protesters and have also taken proactive and positive steps to bring justice to the victims of police brutality by inaugurating a judicial panel of enquiry that will also recommend payment of compensations to victims or their bereaved families.

“To prevent future incidences of police brutality, unlawful arrests, extortion in cash or via POS or ATM machines, Gov Okowa will soon inaugurate a special Security and Human Rights Committee to track operations of security agents and police tactical units to ensure high professional standards to enhance effective policing in the state.

“Our youths are the heroes of the ongoing police reforms and result oriented structures being put in place by state and federal governments to ensure decorum in the operations of law enforcement agents, especially in their assigned responsibilities of protecting lives and properties, arrest and prosecution of suspected criminals in courts of competent jurisdictions, devoid of human rights abuses, unlawful arrests, extortions, intimidation and extrajudicial killings.

“As it is today, the right path to take is to give peace a chance and stop all manner of unlawful conducts, leave the streets and allow both state and federal governments, as well as, the police high command to right the wrong,” Okowa’s EAC added.
