Delta Council Polls: DSIEC to conduct elections for 11 political parties on Saturday

The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, says it is set for the conduct of Saturday, March 6, 2021, local government councils general elections in the state.

The Director of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mr Arubi Orugboh, told newsmen at the DSIEC headquarters in Asaba, that eleven political parties will be participating in the election.

Mr Arubi Orugboh named the political parties to include, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressive Congress, APC, New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, African Democratic Congress, ADC, LABOUR PARTY, LP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, BOOT PARTY, BP, Accord Party, AP, Action Congress, AC and APM.

Mr Orugboh said of the 25 Chairmanship seats being contested for, the Chairmanship candidate for Ethiope West local government council is returned unopposed.

He explained that a total of five hundred Councilorship positions are being contested for across the twenty-five local government councils of the state, saying that elections will hold in all the wards, including the newly created ones.

The Director, Public Affairs also disclosed that, of the five hundred councilorship positions, two hundred and thirty-eight have been returned unopposed.

Mr Orugboh disclosed that the commission is prepared for the election, disclosing that all arrangements and logistic have been put in place towards ensuring the conduct of a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.

He said all non-sensitive materials have been dispatched to the twenty-five Local Government Areas, while sensitive materials will be sent in due course.

The Director, Public Affairs stated that the last weekend’s intensive training for staffs, ad-hoc staff and others that would be involved in the elections was to build their capacities ahead of the conduct of the elections.

Mr Orugboh said the commission was working closely with the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to ensure hitch-free elections across the state.
