Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori says his leadership will continue to prioritise welfare of workers of Delta State House of Assembly.

Oborevwori, who represents Okpe Constituency is presently the longest-serving Speaker of the State Assembly and the Deputy National Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislature.

The Speaker gave the assurance during the maiden Christmas End-of-Year party organised by the leadership of the House for staff of the Assembly and their families.

Addressing the workers during the colourful and well-attended ceremony held at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, Oborevwori lauded the ingenuity of staff of the Delta State House of Assembly.

Flanked by the Deputy Speaker, Ochor Christopher Ochor, Majority Leader, Ferguson Onwo and Deputy Chief Whip, Solomon Ighrakpata, the Speaker described the Delta Assembly workers as the best in the country.

Oborevwori commended the cordial working relationship between the Management, the Workers’ Union and Staff of the Assembly, adding that the relationship has significantly enhanced robust industrial harmony in the State Legislature.

He recalled that in the past four and half years since he assumed the office of Mr Speaker, the Assembly Staff have never had any reason to embark on strike action, attributing the development to his understanding of workers’ welfare as a critical element towards enhanced productivity, efficiency and harmonious living.

Rt Hon Oborevwori, while pledging the sustainability of the Christmas End-of-Year Get-together, emphasized that he would continue to celebrate Staff of the Assembly as all the landmarks he achieved as Speaker would not have been possible without their support.

“I wish to sincerely commend you the workers, particularly leaders of the State Parliamentary Union. You will recall that since the past four years plus, workers within the State Assembly have never had a reason to embark on strike action. This is so because we have been enjoying robust working relationship.

“It is my sincere hope that we sustain this relation in the interest of peace and harmony in the State,” Oborevwori said.

The Speaker expressed hope of a greater and better year 2022, stressing that the House was not relenting in achieving more for the State and its people.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Clerk of the State Assembly, Mrs Lyna Ocholor, expressed appreciation to the Speaker and his leadership for approving the event which she noted was capable of encouraging enhanced productivity and harmonious relationship among the Assembly workforce.

Disclosing that the event was the first of such in the history of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs Ocholor congratulated Rt. Hon. Oborevwori for scoring another first in addition to several others since he assumed office as the Speaker of the State Assembly.

The ceremony which featured the presentation of awards to some deserving staff for their diligence and dedication to duties, brought the Speaker, his deputy and others to the dancing arena.

That aspect of the event was a very exciting moment for the children as they danced with the Speaker who also presented them with gifts.

One of the children later offered prayers for the Speaker and his team.
