The kingship tussle in Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta state has taken a new dimension as Chief Angus Omasoro on Tuesday insisted that he remains the Udurhie 1, the Ovie-Elect of the kingdom.

Omasoro during a World Press Conference in Jesse on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the purported crowning of Monday Whiskey as King of Idjerhe Kingdom saying the exercise which took place on Monday was a serious breach of the tradition and customs of the Idjerhe Kingdom.

He described the crowning as politically motivated being orchestrated by some politicians and also an act capable of causing disunity among Idjerhe sons and daughters.

Omasoro asserted that it is not the duty of politicians to install a king maintaining that politicians perform constitutional duties and other political functions.

He said, “When it comes to the issue of tradition and culture, it is the people and the family, the person that the linage family would bring that will be crown a king.

“What they did yesterday (Monday) was a purported political planning on the part of those who believed that they are now political leaders and alpha and omega of Idjerhe Kingdom; Idjerhe Kingdom belongs to everybody,” Omasoro said.

Continuing Omasoro said,  “A question that I have been asking and till now, nobody has been able to give me an answer is that which of the Udurhie is Monday Whisky from? Is it Oyonobru Udurhie or Idjerhe Central Udurhie? because Oyonobru does not have Udurhie or Uduaka.

“The royal linage of Idjerhe central Oguedion is Udurhie and Uduaka and both have four families each,” Omasoro told journalists.

Omasoro while faulting the illegal action of Chief Atiti from Oyonobru, told newsmen that the only man that can install a king is Chief J.A.Sango, the Unugbrogodo of Idjerhe Kingdom.

He, however, called for calm among Idjerhe sons and daughters since the matter is already in the court as well as the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to step into the matter and the good people of Idjerhe Kingdom to rise up and defend their fatherland.

Meanwhile, Chief Angus Omasoro has decried the underdevelopment of Idjerhe Kingdom to selfish politicians who have refused to perform their constitutional duties of giving dividends of democracy to the people rather playing kingdom politics which is not their primary function.
