Delta 2023: Gbagi picks SDP guber ticket by proxy

Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, on Thursday, emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Delta State.

NewsNet Nigeria gathered that the former Minister of State for Education was represented by his Political Adviser, Chief Austin Kpomah at the SDP governorship primary which was held at the Ughelli Kingdom Hall in Ughelli, Ughelii Local Government Area of the state.

Gbagi according to media reports was the sole governorship aspirant of the SDP at the primary.

He was said to have emerged through a voice motion moved by a delegate, Mr Mike Ujobolo, from Bomadi Ward 3 and supported by another delegate, Pastor Victor Agbula Igbule from Ward 6 in Udu Local Government Area.

Gbagi was subsequently declared the winner and candidate of the party by SDP returning officer, Pastor Highness Akporode.

The Oginibo-born politician from Ughelli South Local Government Area had yesterday Wednesday in a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria, said he was still consulting to arrive at his next line of action.

Recall that Gbagi was until last week a governorship aspirant in Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Citing amongst others a threat to his life, he withdrew in the dying minutes of the governorship primary of the PDP, which was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the state capital.
