The immediate past Deputy Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly and incumbent member representing Bomadi State Constituency, Hon Kenneth Oboro Preyor on Saturday gave his daughter, Tarelayefa, in marriage to Dr George Ohwoekevwo, a native of Agbara-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

The traditional ceremony held at the country home of Hon Preyor in Ebiogbo Quarters, Kpakiama Town, Bomadi Local Government Area, again gave new strength to the fact that cross-cultural marriage remains a strong factor in promoting peace, unity and national development.

Dignitaries from all walks of life defiled the weather and the long-distance journey, to the ancient community of Kpakiama, near Bomadi town to witness and celebrate with both families of Oboro Preyor and Sir Godwin Ohwoekevwo, the father of Dr George Ohwoekevwo, a Medical Doctor.

Former Miss Tarelayefa Preyor, now Mrs Tarelayefa Ohwoekevwo, is a Lawyer and the eldest daughter of Hon and Mrs Oboro Preyor of Kpakiama, a rural community in Ijaw nation.

The marriage was contracted in accordance with the tradition of the people, including the different aspects of kola and drinks presentation; inspection of items required to marry a daughter from Kpakiama community; payment of bride price and dowry, amongst others.

Calm and calculated, the Ohwoekevwo family of Agbara-Otor in Urhobo nation, were handy with all the demanded items, leaving no one in doubt of their preparedness to take their bride home.

The acceptance of the presented items led to the pronouncement of Dr George Ohwoekevwo and Barrister Tarelayefa Preyor, husband and wife, which was immediately followed by the couple kneeling before the bride’s father for prayers.

The elated Hon Oboro Preyor in an interview after performing the task as a father, said it was the prayer of every parent to preside over the marriage ceremonies of their children and thanked God for the fulfilled dream.

His comment was further buttressed by his wife, Mrs Campaign Preyor and the Couple, Dr. & Barr (Mrs) George Ohwoekevwo, who were full of gratitude to God for multiple grace in their lives.

While Mrs Preyor asked that the sweetness in her marriage to Hon Oboro Preyor for over forty years be replicated in multiple folds in her daughter’s new home, the Couple said love brought them together and promised to protect it.

Some Members of the Delta State Assembly, including Hon Matthew Omonade, Ughelli North One; Spencer Ohwofa, Ughelli North 2; Festus Utuama, Ughelli South; Bernard Odior, Isoko North and Hon Charles Oniyere, a former Member of the House, congratulated the Couple and their families for the added milestone.

The Lawmakers and others who spoke in the same vein, prayed for divine mercies upon the Couple, even as they extolled the gains in cross cultural marriages, including the one they  just witnessed between the Ijaws and Urhobos of Delta State.

There were several musical groups to  entertain the guests as well as other side attractions at the Reception organized in honour of the Couple,  Dr and Barr (Mrs) George Ohwoekevwo,  at the Ebiogbo Quarters residence of Hon Oboro Preyor in Kpakiama Town.

The white wedding in line with the Christian faith has been scheduled for Saturday, 22 July 2023 in Asaba, the State Capital.
