Senator Ede Dafinone has taken a bold step to strengthen healthcare delivery in Delta Central Senatorial District with the launch of a free diabetes sensitization and testing outreach.
The free medical outreach aims at tackling the growing challenge of diabetes amongst residents of the district.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the National Health Fellows, will run from October 1 to 18, 2025, across the eight Local Government Areas of the district, offering residents access to free testing, sensitization, and community education.
According to the organizers, diabetes remains one of the fastest-rising health concerns in Nigeria, often undetected until complications such as kidney failure, blindness, stroke, or even death set in.
With limited access to regular testing and preventive care, the outreach is designed to empower residents with knowledge, early detection, and lifestyle modification strategies.
Themed “Come Check Your Sugar Level O!”, the campaign will feature health education sessions, blood sugar tests, and referrals for follow-up care.
The outreach will commence in Sapele (Urban PHC) on October 1 and continue through other LGAs: Ethiope West (Ogharefe 1 PHC) on October 4, Ethiope East (Abraka PO PHC) on October 7, Uvwie (Council Secretariat Hall) on October 9, Okpe (Council Secretariat Hall) on October 11, Udu (Orhuwhorun PHC) on October 14, Ughelli North (Council Secretariat Hall) on October 16, and Ughelli South (Ewu PHC) on October 18. Activities are expected to begin daily at 9:00 AM.
Senator Dafinone emphasized that the programme underscores his commitment to delivering quality healthcare and strengthening grassroots health systems in Delta Central.
By promoting awareness and encouraging early testing, the initiative seeks to reduce preventable deaths and improve public health outcomes across the district.
