The need for government and individuals, especially parents, to accord equal rights to access inclusive, equitable and quality education has been brought to the fore.

Civil Society Action Coalition Education for All (CSACEFA), a non-governmental organisation made the call during her separate visits to Government Primary School, Junior Staff Quarters and  Kings Maker Academy all in Asaba as well as Patmon School, Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the African Child with the theme: “Rights of the Child in the Digital Environment.”

In her remarks to mark the event, the Delta State Coordinator of CSACEFA, Augusta Impact Keneboh said that the International Day of the African Child is celebrated every June 16 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of children in Africa.

She said that it was first celebrated in 1991 to commemorate an uprising by students protesting against their unequal access to education in South Africa during the apartheid regime.

Keneboh recalled that the agenda four of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) stipulated that boys and girls should be given equal access to quality education.

She opined that certain harmful practices, abuses and unnecessary violence had continued to pose threat and challenges to digital environment and learning.

Keneboh urged governments at all levels and other stakeholders to support digital environment for children, adding that they should strive towards protecting the Nigerian child from harmful environment exposure and learning.

The CSACEFA State Coordinator explained that it was the fundamental rights of every Nigerian child to learn how to read and write so as to attain their potential in life.

Present at the events were led persons from various organisations, including Afro Centre for Development, Peace and Justice (AFRODEP), Patmon Community Development Centre, Joeliana Okubor Care Foundation (JOCAF) and Entrepreneurship Skills Initiative for Peace and Development (ESIPND).

Others were Julie Austin Foundation, Monu Olarewaju Foundation (MOF), Hope for All Right Initiative, Girl Power Initiative and members of the  school management, students and parents.
