Two suspected burglars today Sunday morning escaped being lynched by irate residents of commissioner’s road In Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State for allegedly attempting to break into a provision shop.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the suspects who gave his name as Elvis, in his early 20s came to the area when the shop owner had gone to church while his accomplice, a man in his mid-30s kept watch for him.
Unfortunately, luck ran out on them when a furniture shop owner (name withheld) noticed their suspicious movements and alerted other residents of the area.
The angry residents who were joined by some passersby it was gathered bounced on the suspects beating them almost to stupor.
NewsNet Nigeria learned that rescue, however, came the way of the suspects when some unknown persons sensed that they might be killed by the mob whisked them away to the police station for further investigation.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development but explained that two of the suspects escaped while one was brought to the Ebrumede Divisional Police Station in Uvwie Local Government Area.
