The popular spare parts market near the Effurun roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has been shut down.

The market was sealed on the orders of the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Mr Ramson Onoyake, following the attack on the chairman of the market on Monday afternoon over a recent leadership tussle within the union.

The union leaders and some members had been at each other’s throats to occupy the top position.

The Uvwie Council chairman who waded into the issue called all the contenders for a meeting where it was resolved as those interested in positions made their choices.

Trouble however broke out Monday when the chairman of the spare parts market was attacked by members believed to have been led by the secretary.

The chairman it was gathered was beaten to a state of coma and presently battling with life at an undisclosed hospital.

Secretary of the spare parts market on Sapele Road Effurun suspected to have masterminded the attack has allegedly fled along with some of his supporters.

The spare parts market has however been sealed while security agencies including the Army and the Police are on ground to forestall further disturbance.

Meanwhile, spare parts dealers at the closed Effurun Spare Parts market have been told to show commitment to peace and pray for the speedy recovery of their Chairman attacked by some members suspected to have been led by the Secretary.

Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Mr Ramson Onoyake, gave the advice when he made a brief stopover at the Spare Parts Market sealed off on Monday over leadership tussle.

Onoyake told the spare parts dealers that only the speedy recovery of their injured Chairman will guarantee the reopening of the market adding that he was not happy closing the spare parts market because the traders have families who rely on them for survival.

The Chairman of the spare parts market is receiving treatment at an undisclosed private hospital.
