Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor has congratulated the new leadership of the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, on their victories at Wednesday’s electoral contest, held in Asaba, the state capital.

Rt Hon Guwor in a statement issued a few hours after the elections conducted by a team of National Officers of the Union, particularly felicitated Comrade Churchill Oyowe of the Information Chapel of the Delta NUJ for his emergence as the new Chairman of the Council.

The Speaker charged Comrade Oyowe to build on the legacies of his predecessors in office and bring a new lease of life to the Delta NUJ.

Guwor also enjoined other elected officials of the Union, including the Vice Chairman, Felix Ekwu, Secretary, Victor Sorouku, Treasurer, Caroline Ubini, Assistant Secretary, Josephine Omordio, Financial Secretary, Polycarb Orosevwotu and Auditor, Celestine Afokobah, to work with the chairman at ensuring that promises made during their electioneering campaigns were delivered.

“I, on behalf of the leadership, members and management of the Delta State House of Assembly, congratulate the new leadership of the Delta State Council of the NUJ led by Comrade Churchill Oyowe. In all sense of responsibility, we rejoice with them on their elections and wish them well in the task ahead.

“My expectation is for the Chairman to bring a new lease of life to the Union and build upon the legacies of his predecessors in office. I advise the elected officials to work as a team to make progress in the council. Elections have come and gone, every member of the Union should be carried along in the affairs of the Council,” the Speaker said in the statement.

Rt Hon Guwor also appreciated the entire membership of the Delta State Council of the NUJ for their peaceful conduct throughout the electioneering process, even as he urged them to support the new leadership to succeed.
