Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his position as the Senate Minority Leader.

Abaribe, elected to the Senate in 2019 announced his resignation in two separate letters to his Ward Chairman and to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, dated May 24 and May 26, 2022 respectively.

Abaribe in the letter to his former ward chairman said: “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”

Abaribe who represents Abia South in the Senate  recently withdrew from contesting the governorship ticket of the PDP in the State.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi, who Thursday dumped PDP and his presidential aspiration in the party on Friday officially joined the Labour Party, (LP).

Obi, who made the announcement of his new part via his Twitter handle, Friday, said, “I thank all Nigerians, especially our youths who have joined me in the mission of taking back and reuniting Nigeria.

“This project is yours and for the future of your children. I am just a facilitator,” he said.

Obi had in the letter titled: “Resignation From Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Withdrawal from the Presidential Contest,” addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyiochia Ayu, dated May 24, 2022, said he had already notified the party Chairman at the ward level.

He wrote, “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2. Anaocha LGA.

“Anambra, effective Friday 20 May, 2022. Consequently, am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal for the PDP Presidential Primaries.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.

“I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. I wish you well and best of luck in the service of country.“
