Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Ferguson Onwo has said that the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sherrif Oborevwori, remains the best candidate to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the governorship contest in the 2023 general elections in the state.

Reacting to the faceless online publication that the Speaker has withdrawn from the 2023 governorship race, Hon Onwo, who represents Isoko South 11 Constituency described the publication as politics taken too far.

The Lawmaker who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Information, in a telephone interview, stated that the Speaker is very much in the race and had no such intention not to further the ambition of becoming the next governor of Delta State, saying “Although I called him immediately I saw the publication, even without calling him, I know that he is very much in the race because he is not alone in the struggle “.

“Mr Speaker had consulted widely and majority of Deltans are with him following his antecedents. The publication is to cause distraction but those behind it have failed as they succeeded to further enhancing the chances of his victory, our victory, the people’s victory at the PDP primaries”.

“I enjoined the public to discountenance the satanic publication and join forces with those that wish the state well to mobilize more support for Mr Speaker as he is most qualified to continue with the laudable policies and programs of our amiable Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration”.

“If you read the said publication, you will see so much inexperience by the authors in their effort to mislead the public. Although propaganda and blackmailing are expected in politics but not to author such false statements. This is politics taken too far,” Onwo stated.

The Lawmaker disclosed that majority of members of the State Assembly have declared their support for the Speaker, having presided over the most vibrant state legislature with such capacity and intelligence.

Hon Onwo said the entire Delta State needs the leadership of Sherrif Oborevwori, stressing that he is in the governorship race and that by the grace of God who gives power, victory is sure.
