Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has dismissed claims that efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections are driven by northern interests, describing the move instead as a national consensus.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Tambuwal said he is fully committed to working with opposition leaders under the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition to democratically end the Tinubu administration.

“I am fully involved in a process — democratically and lawfully — that will end, by the grace of God, in sending this government out of office. With the help of God and Nigeria, we will send these people out of office,” he declared.

The Sokoto South senator argued that the coalition is broad-based and not regional.

“Is Peter Obi from Northern Nigeria? Is Aregbesola not from Osun State? What are you telling me? Are they not all part of the coalition?” he asked.

Tambuwal said Tinubu’s government has failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations, stressing that the president is not unbeatable.

“It is not cast in stone that he may not lose in 2027. Every effort being made to make it look as if Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated is rubbish. He can be defeated; I believe so.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives added that Tinubu would face difficulty against a united opposition front comprising Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“It will be easier for the opposition to ally to defeat Tinubu. But if Tinubu, Jonathan, Atiku, Peter Obi, and Kwankwaso run in the same election, that would be easy for Tinubu to win,” he noted.

On his preferred presidential candidate for 2027, Tambuwal said he would wait until all aspirants formally declare before making his choice known.
