WWE continue cutbacks, SmackDown announcer, Greg Hamilton released

World Wrestling Entertainment, WWE, has dropped iconic SmackDown announcer, Greg Hamilton, a move which follows numerous redundancies by its Chairman, Vince McMahon.

Hamilton, real name, Greg Hutson, removed WWE from his Twitter bio and switched his account to private earlier in the week and both moves were seen as a result of his release from the role.

Although no official reason has been given but reports indicate Hamilton’s recent social media spat with rapper and wrestling fan Westside Gunn of Giselda Records might have contributed.

The announcer was not pleased Gunn used a clip of his voice on a song and threatened to sue him via WWE’s lawyers, though Hamilton has since deleted the posts he wrote at the time.

Hamilton is the latest staff member to go after McMahon dropped couple of staffs to save cash earlier this year.

Nine stars were released in April, including the likes of Samoa Joe, Mickie James, Chelsea Green and Bo Dallas.

Later in the summer, fan favourites, Braun Strowman, Lana, Buddy Murphy and Aleister Black among others were let go.

Prior to this, WWE commentator Tom Phillips had being sacked in May after nearly ten years on camera.

Hamilton’s departure came just days after fellow commentator Adnan Virk was also released.

WWE signed Hamilton in 2015 where he was assigned to their NXT brand though was later promoted to the main roster in 2016 and has been the voice of SmackDown ever since.

It is yet to known who will replace Hamilton on the next installment of SmackDown as the WWE are yet to make a formal announcement. (The Sun UK)
