Veteran journalist in Delta, Ben Ovberedjo, celebrated on retirement from service

A Committee of Friends on Saturday organised a retirement party for veteran journalist and broadcaster, Mr Ben Ovberedjo, who recently retired from Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri.

The party which was put together under the auspices of Friends of Ben Ovberedjo attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including the Chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Delta born constitutional lawyer, Dr Akpo Mudiaga-Odje.

The Friends of Ben Ovberedjo which include resource persons that featured regularly on the popular Delta Rainbow Television Programme, Focus, celebrated him with songs.

Speaking on the significance of the retirement party for Mr Ben Ovberedjo, who retired as Deputy General Manager in the News and Current Affairs Department of Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri, Chief Chris Iwuru described him as a special and talented person whose commitment endeared him to people that come in contact with him.

Chief Iwuru who said his friendship with Mr Ovberedjo had span thirty years thanked God for enabling him to retire from active service in good health.

Other guests including a lawyer, Akpor Mudiaga Odje, an educationist Mr Emmanuel Ukeredi, Mr Ebenezer Okorodudu and Chief Emmanuel Avworo urged Mr Ben Ovberedjo to use his retirement time to build upon his achievements.

They enjoined civil servants to be committed to their duties as exemplified by the retired Benjamin Ovberedjo, who while in service demonstrated commitment.

In their speeches, Chairman NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, Head of Administration Department, DBS Warri, Dr Ben Ekpobedafe, Manager News and Current Affairs Department, DBS Warri, Comrade Daniel Oji and others described Benjamin Ovberedjo as a workaholic who mentored a lot of persons in the journalism profession.

Mr Benjamin Ovberedjo flanked by his wife, Gladys, were presented with a cheque in appreciation of his achievements in the media industry.

Mr Benjamin Ovberedjo retired from Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri on May 25, 2021.

He served as head of the Current Affairs Unit until his retirement.
